Projects

Every project we've worked on has been an opportunity to innovate and excel in our craft.

At GAE Construction we have carried out a variety of jobs from big to small, working as a single team or as a contractor to aid large projects.  Below is an example of our recent project to develop new motorway infrasturcture with a local UK council.

Collaboration is Key

From the early stages of project development for new road infrastructure, we worked closely with clients to develop plans for how we would deliver the works.

This early involvement helped to identify opportunities that included reusing some of the existing piles and pile caps, saving £1 million of public money. During the planning stage it was important to minimise disruption to road users by managing the road closures and aiming for road closures only during off-peak times. By working with the city council to minimise motorist disruption, we were able to carry out the works without significant delays due to our construction work.

The planning phase was also crucial to the project reducing waste from landfill, this also allowed for the recycling of demolition arisings.

Digital Delivery

To maximise success upon project delivery, the team utilised a range of digital software which allowed the project to be carried out efficiently:

  • Lasers were used to scan the structures and produce designs that would be realistic to the project at hand.

  • AutoCAD is a tool used regularly to plan and review resourcing requirements, ensuring all bridge beam deliveries, self-propelled modular transporter and crane movements were feasible.

  • As the project was complex, the team also used 4D animation to construct a replica of the planned works beforehand. This enabled us to explain in detail the construction plan to stakeholders both internally and externally. The product was a useful training and safety tool for our workers.

  • Measurements of the pressure applied to the concrete framework were taken to ensure appropriate finishes were met in the time frame and to minimise disruption by improving the efficiency of the concrete works.

  • Providing the City Council with a Building Information Model of the project to assist with future maintenance works.

Our Legacy

During this project, it was important to GAE Construction that we ensured the end result would provide value to the local community. Along with the employment of workers from across a range of backgrounds and expertise, we developed and ran a work experience program for students to attend and work on site.

“Simon Hunt (Operations Manager) has been an efficient and effective problem solver which made the past year a great experience.”
